Darijo Srna or Bosginwa: who will join Bayern?

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, as well as acting chairman of the European Club Association, insists that the German record champions are heavily searching for a right back. Although the Bavarians have already spent € 50m for new players in this transfer period the shopping-tour is not yet over: “We’ve acquired players who definitely will bring a boost of quality to our squad. However we’re still searching for a right back” Rummenigge said in an interview with one of the biggest German sport sites, ’sport1.de’.

A hot candidate for the vacant spot is Chelsea FC defender José Bosingwa. The Portugal international is signed at Chelsea until 2011, estimated market value € 21,5m. “If Chelsea will offer an affordable financing we’ll think about a swap”. Alongside Bosingwa Croatian skipper Darijo Srna is also in the focus: Srna’s agent Damir Štimac was quoted with the words “The time is now – or never” on a possible transfer this season out of the Ukrainian league. “It’s heard everywhere, every big Euro club is linked with Darijo. We take a closer look onto Darijo’s situation in Donetsk and on his future plans. The time is now to make a change, six years at Shakhtar are maybe enough – if he’s not going to move now, he’ll never move” Štimac said.

But Srna has an excellent reputation and status at Shakhtar. He has a contract until 2011 and is worth about € 18,5m, possibly more with his last impact on Euro football by winning the UEFA Cup. Štimac wants him to move, no wonder since he will get a big amount of cash in his own pocket with such a fees – but on the other hands side Srna is that complete, that strong – physically and mentally, to cope with a big European team and get into the starting XI… and who doesn’t want him to see playing in a European powerhouse?
