HNSLatest was the first media reporting Ivan Rakitić’s injury is not as bad as feared (read more on this topic in the original post here). The 21-year-old midfielder has now spoken to us saying “Thank god nothing is broken. I’ve had tremendous luck, only my ankle is severely bruised but medics told me I should be able to train again in 4 or 5 days when the swell goes down.”

Some Schalke players are complaining about the heavy training conditions under the new Head Coach Felix Magath, however Rakitić says he’s fine with the pace. “The pre-season preparation is hard but there’s still enough work left to do to fully be prepared for the kick-off. Magath is a very professional and focused Coach, he will lead us to a hopefully good season with Schalke.”

As for Croatia’s road to South Africa 2010 Rakitić is convinced the “vatreni” will qualify for the tournament and win their first task against Belarus in Minsk on the 12th of August: “It won’t be easy but we’re looking forward for the game. And I’m sure we will have a party after the match in Minsk”.

*UPDATE (06/20/09 – 06:31 pm) Schalke 04 is indeed reporting Rakitić’s ankle ligaments is torn – however our headline that nothing is broken, only swollen and severely bruised is now officially backed-up by the HNS, Croatia’s FA (Croatian news here). Seem’s like there are rumors floating the German speaking web but we – at least as for now – confirm Rakitić should be ready again in 7 to 14 days.

*UPDATE (06/20/09 – 07:10 pm) Schalke 04 announced an op is not needed for Rakitić injury. However the German club is saying that Rakitić will be sidelined for an unknown period.
HNSLatest.com is thoughtfully reporting Croatian footballer headlines from around the globe and we believe our source(s) are authentic. We will of course keep you updated on Rakitić’s injury but are sure he will be back within a few days!
