Slaven Bilić: “Srna is the perfect addition for Bayern”

German record champion FC Bayern Munich is still searching for an adequate right back. For a long time FC Chelsea’s Bosingwa was favoured by the Bayern Management – but after the dismissal of “The Blues” the Bavarians are looking for another possible addition. One of the hottest candidates: FC Shakhtar Donetsk and Croatian national team skipper Darijo Srna. Srna has won the UEFA Cup with the Ukrainian club and is chased by Bayern for quite some time now.

“He would be the perfect addition for Bayern” Croatian Head Coach Slaven Bilić said in an interview with German website ’spox’ at the T-Home Cup this week-end.

Spox: After the failed transfer of Bosingwa the Bayern’s are still searching for a right back. The perfect addition would be Darijo Srna, and for you?
Bilić: Of course, Darijo perfectly fits to Bayern Munich and the Bundesliga. Bayern make a good case for Srna: the reputation, Darijo’s close friendship with Ivica Olić – and last but not least the German Bundesliga itself.

Spox: What do you mean?
Bilić: Darijo is one of a few to stand every league in the world because he got it all. He’s fast paced, has a good power, and is tactically and technically skilled. And Germany would be predestined for him because there are above-average 1 v 1 situations where he could perform well.

Spox: But is Srna ready to leave Shakhtar?
Bilić: We’re talking much together and he often asks me what he should do, if he should stay with Shakhtar or move to Western Europe. I calmn him down and say that he’s without pressure. He receives many offerings but Shakhtar is keen to keep him. Don’t forget that he is already playing in a big club, Shakhtar is the reign UEFA Cup winner. He’s not that crazy to leave such a club on a rush. But there is a big “but”.

Especially after Srna’s agent Damir Štimac insisted “The time is now – or never” a move is getting more and more likely. “It’s heard everywhere, every big Euro club is linked with Darijo. We take a closer look onto Darijo’s situation in Donetsk and on his future planings. The time is now to make a change, six years at Shakhtar are maybe enough – if he’s not going to move now, he’ll never move” Damir Štimac said.
Srna is under contract until 2011 in Donetsk and is worth around € 18,5m – possibly more with his last impact on Euro football by winning the UEFA Cup. Štimac wants him to move, no wonder since he will get a big amount of cash in his own pocket with such a fees – but on the other hands side Srna is that complete, that strong – physically and mentally, to cope with a big European team and get into the starting XI… and who doesn’t want him to see playing in a European powerhouse?
