Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Liverpool… all European top clubs which were said to be interessted in Darijo Srna, captain of the Croatian international team and Shakhtar Donetsk. Joseph Guardiola, Barcelona head coach and freshly crowned UEFA Champions League winner, is amazed by Srna’s skills and publicly stated Barca’s interesst in the 27-year-old midfielder. Srna’s player agent Damir Štimac however denied any contacts to the Catalans.

“It’s heard everywhere, every big Euro club is linked with Darijo. We take a closer look onto Darijo’s situation in Donetsk and on his future planings. The time is now to make a change, six years at Shakhtar are maybe enough – if he’s not going to move now, he’ll never move” Damir Štimac said.

But Srna has an excellent reputation and status at Shakhtar. He has a contract untill 2011 and is woth around € 18.500.000, possibly more with his last impact on Euro football by winning the UEFA Cup. Štimac wants him to move, no wonder since he will get a big amount of cash in his own pocket with such a fees – but on the other hands side Srna is that complete, that strong – physically and mentally, to cope with a big European team and get into the starting XI… and who doesn’t want him to see playing in a European powerhouse?
