Zlatko Kranjčar new Persepolis Teheran head coach
Former Croatian national football team coach Zlatko Kranjčar, who was one of the best coaches at Dinamo Zagreb, is new Persepolis Teheran head coach, The Iranian football club made the announcement today. Persepolis had been searching for a coach since Nelo Vingada’s departure in May.
The deal was agreed to thanks to Iranian Khashayar Mohseni, the chairman of Slovak club Dunajská Streda, the Index website has reported. Dunajská Streda was Kranjčar’s last club. Mohseni released Kranjčar from all obligations to the Slovak club and recommended him to the Iranian club. Kranjčar may earn as much as 450,000 US dollars a year.
Persepolis has been led twice by Croats, in the 2003/2004 season by Vinko Begić and from 1994 to 1997 by Stanko Poklepović. The job at Persepolis will be the 18th football-related position Kranjčar has had in his career. It is expected he will join the club tomorrow. Last Sunday, Kranjčar joined celebrations at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium where Austrian Bundesliga club Rapid Vienna played Liverpool FC in a exhibition match to mark the Viennese club’s 110th anniversary (1-0).

new threat now!

Great move for Kranjcar- he can dry out while still working. I like how the Slovak is said to have “recomended him” to the Iranian club. The talks probably looked more like an intervention than a business meeting, though. Anyhow, good luck to the man.
